WUERZBURG, GERMANY, May 9-11. Congress Centre, Conference: Fields of Conflict - Fields of Wisdom. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted a workshop where participants were encouraged to engage in dialogue regarding universal themes of trauma, culture, and oppression and means for healing and reconciliation.

SAN DIEGO, February 3. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted a Training for Mental Health Professionals for the University of San Diego and the San Diego Psychological Association at the University of San Diego.

2000

DAVIS CA, November 17. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted a Training for Mental Health Professionals at the University of California, Davis, for their Department of Psychiatry Grand Rounds program.

DAVIS CA, October 23. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted a Training for Mental Health Professionals Workshop at the University of California, Davis, for their ASAP Program for faculty and staff.

SACRAMENTO CA, September 26. A General Question and Answer Workshops was presented at the California State University, Sacramento, for their Psychology Department's class, Psychology of Ethnic Minorities. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted the workshop where Children of the Camps, the Documentary, was screened.

VALLEJO CA, September 26. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted a Training for Mental Health Professionals Workshop for Kaiser Permanente's psychiatry department.

CLOVIS CA, September 22. A General Question and Answer Workshop was presented at the United Japanese Christian Church. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted the workshop. The screening and workshop were open to the public.

FRESNO CA, September 22. Two (2) General Question and Answer Workshops were presented at the Piccadilly Inn University for the Division of Extended Education of the California State University, Fresno's, "Advancing Mental Health and Wellness Conference, Multicultural Competencies for the New Milennium." The Conference was jointly sponsored by the Division of Extended Education, the Department of Counseling and Special Education, the Department of Psychology, the Department of Social Work Education of the California State University, Fresno, and funded in part by grants from The California Wellness Foundation and The California Endowment. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted the workshops where Children of the Camps, the Documentary, was screened.

WATSONVILLE CA, September 15. A General Question and Answer Workshop and panel discussion was presented at the Japanese American Citizens League Kizuka Hall. Panel participants included Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina, Associate Producer/Workshop Coordinator Kimberly Ina, and Children of the Camps onscreen workshop participant Howard Ikemoto. The screening and workshop were open to the public.

APTOS CA, September 15. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted a Training for Mental Health Professionals Workshop entitled "Healing the Wounds of Racism: A Japanese American Case Study" at the Unitarian Fellowship Hall for the Santa Cruz County Chapter of the California Association of Marriage & Family Therapists. Continuing education units were offered for attendance and participation in the training. Licensed and pre-licensed marriage and family therapists, psychologists, and social workers attended the training.

SANTA FE NM, June 3. A General Question and Answer Workshop was presented at the 13th Annual National Conference on Race & Ethnicity in American Higher Education (NCORE 2000). NCORE in a national conference for administrators, faculty, staff, and student leaders in American higher education. Sponsored by the Southwest Center for Human Relations Studies, Public and Community Services Division, College of Continuing Education, and the University of Oklahoma, the primary planning body for NCORE is the Executive Committee of the Southwest Center for Human Relations Studies. This annual national series has become recognized as the most significant and comprehensive national forum on issues of race and ethnicity in higher education. It is designed to assist higher education institutions in their efforts to create more inclusive environments, improve campus racial and ethnic relations, and expand opportunities for educational access and success by culturally diverse, traditionally underrepresented populations.

ZENTUIJI JAPAN, May 30. A General Question and Answer Workshop was presented at the Shikokugakuin University. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina gave a lecture and conducted the workshop where Children of the Camps, the Documentary, was screened.

KYOTO JAPAN, May 26. A General Question and Answer Workshop was presented for the Zainchi-Chosenjin Kenkyukai (Korean Advocacy Group) at the Kyoto-fu Sports Center. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina gave a lecture and conducted the workshop where Children of the Camps, the Documentary, was screened.

KANNAMI CITY JAPAN, May 24. A General Question and Answer Workshop was presented at the Kannami City Community Center. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina gave a lecture and conducted the workshop where Children of the Camps, the Documentary, was screened.

TOKYO JAPAN, May 22. A General Question and Answer Workshop was presented for the Foreign Corresondents' Club of Japan. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina gave a lecture and conducted the workshop where Children of the Camps, the Documentary, was screened.

SAN FRANCISCO CA, April 20. A General Question and Answer Workshop and panel discussion was presented at the Metreon. The event was part of a film series co-presented by the National Asian American Telecommunications Association (NAATA) in conjunction with the "America's Concentration Camps: Remembering the Japanese American Experience, " a traveling exhibit from the Japanese American National Museum (JANM) at the California Historical Society. Panel participants included Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina, Associate Producer/Workshop Coordinator Kimberly Ina, Director/Editor Stephen Holsapple, Director of Photography Emery Clay III, and Children of the Camps onscreen workshop participant Ruth Okimoto. The screening and workshop were open to the public.

FRESNO CA, February 28. A General Question and Answer Workshop was presented at California State University, Fresno. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted the workshop. The screening and workshop were free and open to the public.

CINCINNATI OH, February 20. A General Question and Answer Workshop was presented at Carew Tower, Guie 300. The event was hosted/presented/sponsored by the Cincinnati Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) in cooperation with the Japan America Society of Greater Cincinnati. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted the workshop. The screening and workshop were free and open to the public.

CLEVELAND OH, February 19. A General Question and Answer Workshop was presented at the Wagner's Country Inn. The event was hosted/presented/sponsored by the Cleveland Japanese American Citizens League (JACL). Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted the workshop. The screening and workshop were open to the public.

1999

OAKLAND CA, November 30. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted a Training for Mental Health Professionals Workshop entitled "Psychology of Racism: The Japanese American Case Study" at the Oakland Convention Center for the Cultural Competence and Mental Health Summit VII. The statewide effort was hosted by Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services and co-hosted by San Francisco County Community Mental Health Services.

CHICAGO IL, November 21. A screening and Dialogue Group workshop was conducted by Dr. Satsuki Ina at the Japanese American Service Committee. The event was hosted/sponsored by the Intergenerational Legacy Project. The screening and workshop were free and open to the public.

CHICAGO IL, November 20. A General Question and Answer Workshop was presented at the Midwest Buddhist Temple. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted the workshop. The screening and workshop were free of charge.

CHICAGO IL, November 20. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted a Training for Mental Health Professionals Workshop for the Japanese American Service Committee's Intergenerational Legacy Project.

MODESTO CA, November 9. A General Question and Answer Workshop was presented at the Modesto Junior College, West Campus. The event was hosted by the Modesto Institute for Continuing Education, the senior arm of the Modesto Junior College, as the first in a series entitled "Find our Roots: Meet a Variety of Individuals . . . Life has been a Challenge." The screening was followed by a question and answer session with Children of the Camps onscreen workshop participant Richard Tatsuo Nagaoka. The screening and workshop were free and open to the public.

LIVERMORE CA, November 7. A General Question and Answer Workshop was presented at Las Positas College. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted the workshop. The screening and workshop were free and open to the public.

SAN JOSE CA, October 16. A General Question and Answer Workshop ane panel discussion was presented at the Wesley United Methodist Church. The event was sponsored by the Japanese American Resource Center/Museum and the Santa Clara University Eastside Project. The workshop was introduced and moderated by Associate Producer Kimberly Ina. Panel participants were Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina and Children of the Camps onscreen workshop participants Howard Ikemoto, Marion Kanemoto, Bessie Masuda, Richard Tatsuo Nagaoka, and Toru Saito. The screening and workshop were free and open to the public.

SAN DIEGO CA, October 9. A General Question and Answer Workshop was presented at the San Diego Buddhist Temple. The event was hosted/presented/sponsored by the Japanese American Historical Society of San Diego. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted the workshop. The screening and workshop were free and open to the public.

SACRAMENTO CA, September 30. A General Question and Answer Workshop was presented at the National University for a class entitled "Psychology of Culture and Mental Health." Approximately 55 students attended the screening and workshop on the impact of racism on mental health.

LONG BEACH CA, September 28. Two (2) General Question and Answer Workshops were presented at the California State University, Long Beach, in the University Theater. Sponsors for the program included the Asian and Asian American Studies Center for Asian Pacific American Studies, Department of Black Studies, Department of Chicano and Latino Studies, Native American Studies, Center for Successful Aging, Armenian Student Association, Communication Studies, Art Department, University Interfaith Center, Multicultural Center, The Coalition of Women from Asia and the Middle East, Peace Studies Certificate Program, Office of Equity and Diversity, and University Student Union. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted the workshops which were free and open to the public.

LONG BEACH CA, September 28. Two (2) General Question and Answer Workshops were presented at the California State University, Long Beach. The first was for a psychology class and the second was for a liberal studies class. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted the workshops which were free and open to the public.

NAPA CA, September 26. A screening and Dialogue Group workshop was conducted for members of the Napa Valley Tomodachi Club at the UC Cooperative Extension. Children of the Camps facilitators Dr. Satsuki Ina, Iko Miyazaki, Kimberly Ina, and Richard Tatsuo Nagaoka conducted the Dialogue workshop. The event was free of charge.

ONTARIO OR, September 18. A General Question and Answer Workshop was presented at the Four Rivers Cultural Center. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted the workshop. The screening and workshop were free and open to the public.

SACRAMENTO CA, September 14. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted a follow up, more indepth, Training for Mental Health Professionals Workshop for Kaiser Permanente's Department of Psychiatry. Mental health providers consisting of psychologists, psychiatrists, clinical social workers, nurses, and reception staff attended the training.

SACRAMENTO CA, September 9. A General Question and Answer Workshop was presented as part of the American River College's Professional Development Seminars entitled, "Celebrating Diversity." The program was co-sponsored by the Affirmative Action Committee. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted the workshop. The screening and workshop were free and open to the campus faculty and student general public.

DAVIS CA, September 7. A General Question and Answer Workshop was presented for the University of California Davis' Sociology Department. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted the workshop where Children of the Camps, the Documentary, was screened.

LOS ANGELES CA, August 22. A premiere screening and panel discussion was presented at the Japan America Theater of the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center (JACCC). Panel participants included Children of the Camps onscreen workshop participants Howard Ikemoto, Bessie Masuda, Richard Tatsuo Nagaoka, Ruth Okimoto, and Toru Saito, and the discussion was moderated by Dr. Mich Maki. A reception was held following the screening at the Japanese American National Museum (JANM).

WOODLAND HILLS CA, August 10. A General Question and Answer Workshop was presented for members of the staff of The California Endowment as well as for invited academic and community guests. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted the workshop. The screening and workshop were free of charge.

SAN FRANCISCO CA, July 24. A General Question and Answer Workshop was presented at the Western Addition of the San Francsico Public Library. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted the workshop. The screening and workshop were free and open to the public.

SACRAMENTO CA, July 13. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted a Training for Mental Health Professionals Workshop for Kaiser Permanente's Department of Psychiatry. 40 - 50 mental health providers consisting of psychologists, psychiatrists, clinical social workers, nurses, and recepation staff attended the training which was free.

SAN FRANCISCO CA, June 21. A screening and Dialogue Group workshop was conducted by Dr. Satsuki Ina for members of the Japanese Counseling and Support Network at the Family Service Agency. The screening and workshop were free of charge.

SAN FRANCISCO CA, June 8. A General Question and Answer Workshop was presented at the California Institute of Integral Studies. The program was presented by the School of Consciousness and Transformation their 4-part film series, of which Children of the Camps was the last, "Breaking the Silence: Challenging Oppression & Marginalization." Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted the workshop. The screening and workshop were free and open to the public. Over 20 faculty and students attended.

SACRAMENTO CA, June 8. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted a 3-hour Training for Mental Health Professionals Workshop for Asian Pacific Community Counseling. Approximately 15 mental health providers consisting of staff representing the Chinese, Fijian, Filipino, Hmong, Japanese, Korean, Mien, Tongan, Samoan, and Vietnamese communities attended.

SACRAMENTO CA, June 1. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted a 3-hour Training for Mental Health Professionals Workshop for UC Davis' Department of Community and Family Medicine at the Lawrence J. Ellison Ambulatory Care Center. Approximately 30 family practitioners, faculty, and health educators attended the Children of the Camps Documentary screening and training.

SEATTLE WA, May 25. Two (2) General Question and Answer Workshops were presented at North Seattle Community College. The first was for an ethnic studies class, Societies/Cultures of U.S., and the second was open to campus faculty and students as part of their Asian Pacific American Heritage month celebration. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted the sessions where Children of the Camps, the Documentary, was screened.

SACRAMENTO CA, May 23. A General Question and Answer Workshop was presented for the Davis Community Church as part of their adult study each Sunday and a 4-week series on racism. Children of the Camps facilitator Christine Umeda conducted the session where a portion of the Children of the Camps Documentary was screened. The screening and workshop were free and open to church members.

SEATTLE WA, May 22. A General Question and Answer Workshop was presented at North Seattle Community College. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted the workshop. The event was sponsored by Blaine Memorial United Methodist Church and the Seattle Chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League. Key community leaders and representatives were invited to this screening to discuss further possibilities for Children of the Camps workshops in the Seattle/Washington area. Approximately 100 people attended, including Washington State Representatives Sharon Tomiko Santos and Kip Tokuda. The screening and workshop were free and open to the public. SAN FRANCISCO CA, May 19. A General Question and Answer Workshop was presented for PG&E's Asian Pacific American Heritage month's brown bag series. The question and answer session followed the Children of the Camps 12-minute video trailer screening. Associate Producer Kimberly Ina conducted the session and she and Children of the Camps onscreen workshop participant Ruth Okimoto were available to answer questions.

CITRUS HEIGHTS CA, April 29. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina gave a presentation at Cosumnes Community College as part of their Asian Pacific Islander Heritage celebration. The Children of the Camps Documentary screening and presentation was free and open to the campus faculty and student general public.

SACRAMENTO CA, April 26. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina gave a presentation entitled "The Psychology of Racism: The Japanese American Case Study" at Sacramento City College. The program was presented by Sacramento City College's Cultural Awareness Center and Asian/Pacific Islander Heritage Committee. The Children of the Camps Documentary screening and presentation was free and open to the campus faculty and student general public.

SACRAMENTO CA, April 21. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina gave a presentation entitled "Psychology of Racism: The Japanese American Case Study" at the California State University Sacramento's Multi-Cultural Center. The Children of the Camps Documentary screening and presentation was free and open to the campus faculty and student general public.

CHICAGO IL, April 11. Children of the Camps, the Documentary, was screened at the Film Center in Chicago as part of the 1999 Chicago Asian American Showcase. A question and answer session followed the screening with Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina and Associate Producer Kimberly Ina. Following the question and answer session, a separate dialogue took place with approximately 20 invited community leaders and guests of the Japanese American Service Committee.

CHICAGO IL, April 10. A General Question and Answer Workshop was presented at the Heiwa Terrace. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted the workshop. The screening and workshop were free and open to the public. Approximately 200 people attended.

SACRAMENTO CA, March 29. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted a facilitators' training for five individuals who will assist with Children of the Camps Community Education Workshops. The training was free of charge.

SACRAMENTO CA, March 18. A General Question and Answer Workshop was presented for the Sierra Mission Partnership's Forum on Unlearning Racism. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina conducted the workshop for a task force of approximately 15 leaders from the Presbyterian Churches of Nevada, Sacramento, and Stockton attended the Children of the Camps documentary screening and workshop.

SAN FRANCISCO CA, February 20. A General Question and Answer Workshop and panel discussion was presented at the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California (JCCCNC). The event was hosted/sponsored by the JCCCNC and the Sansei Legacy Project in observance of Day of Remembrance and was free and open to the public. The workshop was introduced and moderated by Associate Producer Kimberly Ina. Panel participants were Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina and Children of the Camps onscreen workshop participants Bessie Masuda, Richard Tatsuo Nagaoka, Ruth Okimoto, and Toru Saito. Over 150 people attended the Children of the Camps Documentary screening and workshop which was free and open to the public. See workshop responses.

SACRAMENTO CA, February 7, 1999. The live world premiere screening of Children of the Camps, the Documentary, was presented at the Crest Theater. Over 810 people attended the debut screening which included special guests and speakers Ann Valenti, District Director, Office of Congressman Robert Matsui, Michael Honda, Assemblymember, 23rd District, Deborah Ortiz, Senator, 6th District, Herb Yamanishi, Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) Executive Director, and Helen Kawagoe, Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) President. Of the Children of the Camps Documentary and Educational Project, Assemblymember from the 23rd District Michael Honda said this, "[Children of the Camps is] about self-acknowledgment and coming to terms with ourselves and our history . . . and that if we can honor our history and come to grips with it, then we can guide ourselves not only in the present, but into the future. It's personal growth for myself . . . After this program . . . watch the spirit, watch the sentiment, watch the growth, and watch the healing." The Children of the Camps Documentary and Educational project's major funder, The California Endowment, all six of the Children of the Camps onscreen workshop participants, and all of the Children of the Camps crew and production members were acknowledged on stage. ALAMEDA CA, January 30. Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina gave a presentation entitled, "Healing the Child Within: A Personal Journey" at the Sansei Legacy Project's 8th Annual Anniversary Dinner, "Connecting Memories." The Children of the Camps 12-minute video trailer was screened and three of the Children of the Camps onscreen workshop participants were introduced.

SACRAMENTO CA, January 21. A General Question and Answer presentation was given at the press preview screening of the completed Children of the Camps Documentary at the Sacramento PBS affiliate station, KVIE, television studios. The question and answer session following the screening was introduced and moderated by KVIE General Manager, David Hosley. Over 20 community, press, and television representatives attended the screening and workshop. Children of the Camps crew and production members were available to answer questions, including Project Director Dr. Satsuki Ina, Director/Editor Stephen Holsapple, Associate Producer Kimberly Ina, Creative/Administrative Producer Audrey Wells, and Financial Manager Howard Fujimoto.
